SUNNY BANK MILL
Spacious riverside self-catering house for 14 with private shoreline on Coniston Water
ABOUT
Sunny Bank Mill is owned by a group of friends who are all passionate about the Lake District and particularly the Sunny Bank area and Coniston Water. We regularly come and stay at Sunny Bank with friends and family and have put a lot of thought and effort into equipping it with everything you could possibly need – whether you are looking for an active holiday in the Great Outdoors, gentle walks by the lake or just relaxing and dining with friends in breath-taking scenery.
The property caters for families and children of all ages (but please be aware of child safety given the proximity of the beck). Well-behaved dogs are welcome too and Sunny Bank Mill is a great place for dog-lovers; the garden is enclosed and the walk down to the lake is sheep-free and makes a great early morning or evening stroll.
LOCATION
Sunny Bank Mill sits right beside pretty Torver Beck on the quiet western shore of Coniston Water in the heart of the Lake District National Park. The hamlet of Sunny Bank consists of just half a dozen dwellings, nestled beside the water.
To the north is Torver Back Common where a short walk uphill quickly rewards with fantastic views of the whole lake. Alternatively you can follow the Cumbria Way path along the lakeshore all the way to Coniston village, about 4 miles away. The Bluebird café at the water's edge will provide a well-earned ice-cream or cup of tea!
To the west is beautiful open countryside, and a walk up to Beacon Tarn is recommended. Torver village, 1 mile to the north, boasts a traditional Lakeland pub serving fine beers and excellent food. Full of character, the pub has a roaring log fire, low beams and flagstone floor.
Coniston, 4 miles north, is a pretty Lakeland town with a fine church, a variety of shops, post office, tourist information centre and a number of good pubs. The Steam Yacht Gondola and Coniston Launch both operate from here, providing a good way to see the lake. The John Ruskin museum is well worth a visit, as is Ruskin's house Brantwood just across the lake, which has beautiful gardens and a great restaurant.
Sunny Bank Mill is an ideal holiday location whether you want to explore nearby Lakeland villages (and teashops!), wander on the fells, take a boat out on the lake, mountain-bike in Grizedale Forest, or just relax in the garden amidst stunning scenery.
